o man, the bands for lollapalooza were announced and let me just say: sweeet!

though i am saddened by the absence of the arcade fire from this year's lineup, as well as wolf parade and radiohead's, i still must say, it's a fine presence in chicago this summer.

and i will most definitely be going, w/ brittany, even if i am evicted from my nonexistent summer abode. i will camp in grant park, chicago's warm in the summer, and i will enjoy the musical festivities.

o, and the mountain goats (john darnielle is a poet!) are coming to another music fest in the area, which i will ostensibly be attending as well.

the summer is looking pretty sharp and fantastic!

ted leo concert review + new song

o man, the history for this blog is embarrassing...

anyway, britt and i went to the totally sweeeet ted leo concert last saturday.

and i blush to think of how long it's been w/out so much as even a mention on this blog about it.

tsk tsk, we are such bad webmasters. or is it webmistresses? i don't think i like the sound of that too much. and i say pshaw to gender-specific language. begone with it! if i want to be a webmaster (implying male gender), then so be it. i think i'd prefer it.

anyway, ted leo was totally amazing. so check out the review on my other blog.

o, and if that's not incentive enough, there's also a sneak peek into his next album, with a song called "la costa brava."

so, we just got done compiling the playlist and figuring out the format for the show.

now, i'm not gonna reveal too much (you're just gonna have to tune in tomorrow!), BUT i will give you a little peak into the show's organization:

THE AVOCADO COUCH show format!!!

break into show with witty banter and a soul-stirring opening song
feature artists / break-out bands / new releases
iPod rotation
indie covers segment
local bands (i.e. favorites from Kentucky and Ohio)
concert previews (play music by touring artists, esp. those we will be seeing)
live stuff (awesome live tracks)
ambient / experimental / b-sides and rarities segment
individual picks (steph and britt each pick one or two songs they really like and share them with listeners)
guilty pleasures and flashbacks (ooo... the dessert! all those songs you hate to love, but are soooo good! these will mostly be pulled from the decades of our youth and childish fancies. ie, the 80's and 90's)

sounds like a good time, right? oh, i can guarantee that it will be.

so, tune in SATURDAY!!! 4-6 pm EST.

too bad i can't stream dance performances from here.

but this too is mighty sweet, and should give you an idea of what you're missing. (comes with avocado couch approval of awesome!)

lock-out and the materialization of the invisible

so we were supposed to go in today to figure out the equipment and experiment with stuff.

well, that didn't happen.

we had forgotten that the board members (and thus, those with key access) had gone to new york this weekend.

so we stood in front of the locked door, cursing and kicking and looking like fools.

then we went to the dance/theatre building. that was neat.

and, oddly, we saw a group of large, bald-headed men emerge from a navy blue minivan and a chevy lumina with bullet-hole decals on the rear bumper. real gangsta.

i'm convinced they spontaneously materialized.

so, i just wanted to let you know. because if you actually listened in this past saturday (the 17th) and didn't like what you heard, don't blame us. blame the bald men.

and if, well, you happened to like what you heard, don't credit us. credit magic.

WHOA.

sufjan stevens is playing a concert at southgate tonight!!!

and yours truly will most definitely be rockin' it out .

i've waited all summer to go to this concert, so i am quite excited. and laura veirs is opening, which should also be quite the auditory treat.

was even gonna make a "sufjan stevens for president" or "sufjan, will you marry me?" t-shirt, but defaulted in honor of subtlety. (besides, this post (and this one and this one) pretty much guarantees that i've professed my love for sufjan so openly and obviously already so that i can forego ever having to literally wear my feelings on my sleeve...)

so, if anyone wants to jolt me out of my s0-mad-for-sufjan-my-eyes-are-glazing-over state long enough to say 'hello' at the concert tonight, you'll probably find me (hopefully) somewhere near the front.

oh. and i'll probably be wearing this shirt. (more later on the philosophical significance of the shirt's meaning... if there are requests.)
